Happy Thoughts: Lola Shoneyin, Aminatta Forna and Leila Aboulela

In 2007, Chimamanda Adichie won the Orange prize for fiction and did Nigeria and all of Africa proud. The longlist for this year has been released and it has me thinking happy thoughts. Nigeria’s Lola Shoneyin (whose poetry I LOVE )has been longlisted for The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives! Two other African writers are on the longlist. They are Sudan’s Leila Aboulela for Lyrics Alley and Sierra Leone’s Aminatta Forna for The Memory of love. Forna has just won the Commowealth prize (Best book African region) for the same book.
The shortlist will be announced on April 12. Is too much to wish all three writers make it to the shortlist?
If you haven’t read Lola Shoneyin’s book, you should get a copy TODAY. It is published in Nigeria by Cassava republic.
